Buying Authority Dating Domains | Redirecting Properly
Did you know that buying an existing dating domain name that has authority and redirecting to your new dating site is a great way to increase your dating site brand? The process is a bit complicated but I’ll lay it out so it’s easy for you to do it.
What Is Dating Domain Authority?
Wikipedia states that Domain Authority (DA) is its relevance for a specific subject area or industry. This relevance has a direct impact on its ranking by search engines like Google, trying to assess domain authority through automated analytic algorithms.
Now that might sound very technical but the gist is that domains get authority by having relevant links from other sites pointing to them as well as the quality of the content that is on the site and the competition that is around that domain. The better all that is the higher the domain authority the domain will have. In the industry we call all this “Link Juice”.
How Does This Pertain To Dating?
So when you start a dating site and you choose a brand new domain then that domain won’t have any link juice on it. You’ll be starting from scratch and there’s nothing wrong with that and building new domain authority to your dating site is pretty easy provided you do a few things that we’ve outlined in our 5 steps to increase dating traffic post.
There are ways to jump start your traffic and one of those ways is by buying an existing dating domain. You can find a lot of these over at Flippa but be careful over there. That site is known for scammers posting fake details on sites but with some due diligence from you you’ll be able to decipher if a domain has some juice on it.
If you do decide to get a dating domain then here are few things to look for.
- Search the Domain Authority Checker
- Check the Whois data on the domain at GoDaddy to ensure the domain is a few years old. I recommend dating domains that are at least 5 years old with a high DA.
- Look for dating domains with DA of 30 or higher.
To touch again on the Flippa site, be careful there. If you’re looking at buying a dating domain from someone there. Go outside and check the age of the domain via GoDaddy Whois. Then do a review search to ensure the dating domain is not saturated with bad reviews. You don’t want that drama.
Once you have found a great domain come check with us first and let us check the history on it. While we’ve listed a few things you can do we’d still love to make sure you’re getting a good deal so contact us first before you buy it.
Redirect Your Dating Domain
Once you have secured your dating domain, the first thing you’re going to want to do is install the domain as a addon domain on your hosting and setup a temp index page.
The next thing is to add the domain to your Google Search Console. That way you have the domain as a property that is going to get indexed.
Once you have the domain in the search console then what you want to do is do a site move. This means go into the domain then go to Settings and choose Change of Address. Then select the existing domain you want to move it to then select Validate & Update. Once you save that it Google will begin the process of changing all of internal link juice and point it to your new domain name. It can take anywhere from 4 days to 6 months to move a site but in most cases we’ve seen it happen within a few weeks so do be patient.
Right after you move your domain what you will want to do is do a 301 redirect on the domain via .htaccess file. This means that when traffic goes to the old domain name that it redirects to your new domain name. It’s also important to point any existing URL’s to the new domain so bee sure to recreate those pages and redirect old pages to new pages on your new domain.
If you need help setting up your .htaccess file for proper redirecting of your old domain name then be sure to contact us and we can help you get that done.
